Minor cut? Bug bites? Run to the garden for relief! Plants have been part of the household first-aid kit for generations, and some surprisingly ordinary herbs can be wonderfully useful allies for life’s little mishaps. In this introduction to herbal first aid, we’ll explore plants traditionally used for minor cuts, scrapes, burns, bruises, bug bites, sore throats, colds and those everyday moments when you need simple relief.
Meet some of the herbal first-aid superstars, including calendula, yarrow, lavender, plantain, and elderberry. We’ll explore what they do, when you might choose them, and the best ways to put them to work, from teas and washes to compresses, salves and other preparations.
We’ll also discuss building an affordable herbal first-aid kit: what’s worth making, what’s handy to buy ready-made and what you should know about safety.
You don’t need an enormous apothecary or years of herbal training. Sometimes a handful of well-chosen plants can go a very long way.
No previous herbal experience necessary. A packet of herbal information is included. Curious beginners and seasoned plant people are equally welcome.
